Puppy Dog School: the basic of the early socialisation
The puppy dog school is the most important part of the “education” of a mudi. As other lessons, can be done later, any time in life, but the puppy dog school is the part of the early socialisation and connected to the earliest period of life, if this is postponed or missed, our dog can have problems in life later, with meeting strangers and new situations, so if you want an opened and self-confident adult mudi, you have to make the basis.
Now as we moved from the capital I started to understand why people have sometimes problem with puppy dog school. It is difficult to find a dog school where there are more puppies, and even if we find one, sometimes only its name is puppy dog school, but there is no playing and socialisation, it is rather a puppy obedience which hurts more than helps, so one should be careful, and check what kind of place you are, as if you think about your children, you do not want to send a child to secondary instead of kindergarten. This is similar, puppy has to be off leash, play a lot, so if the leash is on and commands are given this is not the right place.
Also a common mistake that someone who wants to do sport with the puppy go to competitions together, and think it is enough instead of puppy dog school. But it isn’t. If a mudi stays a box or meets with the usual friends, is not the same than to meet with strangers, both humans and dogs, small and big ones as well. If not doing early, it could be a problem as adult, and our dog can be unfriendly, not opened enough. Even if lots of things are taught the dog cannot have good manner and the social contact cannot be proper. Though one has easy task, as mudi is always focused to the owner, so the mudi is easy learner, and it is the same with socialisation, like with other “lessons”, if one teaches the puppy it is easy to teach the social skills, too. Just not miss it as early, as possible! Though it is even more important not to bark to the strangers or be friendly with other dogs, than to run fast. ...and it can also be taught, earlier easier, and giving correct feedback and clear borders is basic.

It is very important not to be afraid of making mistakes. It is natural that everybody makes mistakes, also our puppies do. It is the way of learning, if they do mistakes we have to give feedback, clear and consequent and they will learn. This is when the adolescent puppy first barks someone, do not be afraid and put your dog on leash. To put leash instead of giving feedback and understanding is the worth, as your dog will never know what is good and what is bad-not required. Or to go away and stay away of the problem is also a very bad solution, as if we go away, we will never resolve. Give feedback and trust your dog! Mudi is an off leash puppy, and easy learner, use this!
Somebody is afraid going out early or going puppy dog school, thinking that making mistake is bad or an infection could hurt. These are misbelieves. Or the owner is jut lazy to go out to school or has no time at the moment. The reality is that this is a very important period, and to miss it can have influence for the whole life, to go to puppy dog school is the basic interest of the owner, to have easy life. If you have an easy learner it is a big mistake not to use the possibility! Go to school instead of putting on leash or chain later...
